New LGBTQI Refugee Lands in Halifax, Nova Scotia

We are very happy to announce the arrival of a new refugee from Iran that we were able to sponsor because of donations from awesome people like YOU. Our newest arrival* landed last week and is in his early 20s. A big thank you to all who donated funds, furniture and household goods. As a result, we were able to set up his apartment in record time!

Our sponsored refugees from last year have also been helping out. Starting life anew in a strange country with strange customs will take time and are very grateful for the strong bond that has already been formed by these men who share the common experience of having to unwillingly flee their home country because of their sexuality. They are able to offer each other advice and support in a way that, try as we might, we simply cannot.

RRANS board members have been busy helping our newest arrival adjust to his new surroundings. At ISANS - Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (formerly known as ISIS - Immigrant Settlement & Integration Services) - he will be starting orientation and ESL classes soon. For now, he has been getting over his jet lag and has been enjoying the exposure to Halifax, its food, and its locals - who are very warm and friendly. We are so lucky to have such a strong community that not only fosters, but actively encourages, diversity.
