The federal Rainbow Refugee Assistance Program has been extended.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support of the Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia and LGBTQI issues. In our last letter, we discussed the possibility of losing one third of our funding, as the federal Rainbow Refugee Assistance Program Pilot Project was set to expire.
Thankfully, in large part due to your support and outreach, the Canadian Government has decided to extended the Citizenship and Immigration Canada pilot program for another two years. This funding will allow our group to help more LGBTQ refugees.
While we are extremely happy that the pilot project will continue, as RRANS President Corrie Melanson points out in this CBC interview, "We're not guaranteed that this will continue beyond the next two years. There's a real need for this program to be permanent." So we encourage you to keep showing your support, by letting your local MPs know that this program is important and that you'd like to see permanent funding.
